Pietro Facchetti

1535 Mantua – 1619 Rome

The painter and engraver, Pietro Facchetti, trained under Lorenzo Costa in Mantua before moving at a young age to Rome, where he became known as portraitist. According to Baglione, the artist portrayed almost every lady in Roman society and this was the basis of his reputation. Nonetheless, Facchetti seems to have lived in poor conditions, as he described in a letter dated 1613 to the Cardinal Duke of  Mantua.
