Trained by such renowned masters as Felice Torelli, Ercole Graziani and Ercole Lelli, Ubaldo Gandolfi quickly became one of the foremost decoration painters active in Bologna and the Romagna. He also excelled as a por­trait painter and author of paintings on religious themes.
