Raphael Morghen

1758 Naples – 1833 Florence

Raphael Morghen, a native of Naples, was apprenticed in Rome to Giovanni Volpato, from whom he learned the art of French line engraving. He married his daughter and in 1793 moved to Florence, where he was appointed professor of engraving at the Academy. In the following years he became one of the most famous neo-classic line-engravers of his time.
