Adriaen Hendriksz. Verboom

The painter, draughtsman and etcher, Adriaen Verboom, was initially active in Rotterdam. Having been in Haarlem in the 1650s, he then settled in Amsterdam. Verboom’s landscapes show the influence of Jacob van Ruisdael. The style of some of his drawings is so close to the works of Cornelis Vroom and Claes van Beresteyn that they were often attributed to these artists in the past. Verboom’s printed oeuvre is rare, encompassing just six landscape etchings, which also reveal the lasting influence of van Beresteyn and the young Ruisdael. The etchings were probably made during the time Verboom worked in Haarlem, when he clearly kept in close contact with the aforementioned artists.
