Bernhard Vogel

(1683 Nuremberg – 1737 Augsburg)

Bernhard Vogel ranked among the foremost German reproductive engravers of his time. Active alternately in Augsburg and Nuremberg, he was known above all for an anthology with mezzotints after inventions by Johann Kupezky. Vogel’s mezzotints, which are still considered to be amongst the best of their time, were esteemed by his contemporaries for their superb technical and artistic quality.
