Johann Peter Wagner

1802 Mannheim – 1847 Karlsruhe

The landscape painter and lithographer, Johann Peter Wagner, was taught by his uncle Karl Wagner in Karlsruhe and later went on to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1823/24. A stay in Paris followed around 1824/25. There he met the painter Carl Ludwig Frommel. Around 1826/27 he traveled to Italy. Being in charge of the printing-office of his uncle, he established a reputation by his lithographs, which according to Nagler stood out for their “tasteful treatment”.
